Lifestyle photography is “a style of portrait photography which aims to capture and document real-life events, situations, or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday.”  Shooting lifestyle photography to me means shooting folks doing what they do.  A typical portrait is when you simply photograph a subject like a person or an animal. A lifestyle photo shows the subject in regards to the situation or location they are in.
